Fresh and Clean Carpet Cleaning Tips

Before We Visit:

Here are a few carpet cleaning tips prior to out visit. There is very little that you need to do before our carpet cleaners come to visit. We do ask that you remove any plants, knick-knacks, lamps, etc that may be resting on furniture that we will need to move. We will handle moving the majority of furniture and other items when we arrive. There is an additional charge for moving beds, dressers, and heavier furniture. Items such as china cabinets, pianos, entertainment systems, and other valuable items will not be moved for liability reasons.

Carpet Drying:

Additional carpet cleaning tips during the dying process: Try to keep pets, children, and heavy traffic off the carpet during the drying process. Please wait at least 24 hours before removing protective blocks and/or tabs that our technicians have placed under the furniture to protect the carpet. While our truck mounted vacuum system removes almost all moisture immediately, your carpet or upholstery may still feel damp to the touch. Using fans in any of the rooms that have been cleaned and turning on the air conditioning, can help accelerate drying time. Avoid wearing street shoes on damp carpet as they may re-soil your carpet. Be especially careful when walking from damp carpeted areas to non-carpeted areas to avoid slipping.

Recurring Spots:

If a spot returns a day or so after cleaning, it may have been oily or sticky and was not completely removed, or "wicked back" due to the nature of the spot, or possibly it's not a spot but a permanent stain.

Bleached or Faded Spots:

If you have spots or small areas that have been bleached out, we may be able to spot dye them depending on the type of the carpet fiber.

Various Stains:

Most stains can be removed, and they are not permanent stains. However, there are conditions where permanent staining is present and can not be removed. The following is a list of stains which we may or may not be able to remove:

Blood
If hot water or alkaline cleaning products have been used, the chances are good that we will be able to remove the stain.
Filtration Soiling
Filtration soiling is the black marks you see around the edges of your base boards. Most of the time, we can get these marks to lighten but they seldom come all the way out. The particles in filtration soiling are so fine and go all the way down the sides of the yarn and through the backing of the carpet. This makes it very difficult to remove.
Furniture Stains
These are almost impossible to remove.
Ketchup
If the ketchup has a red dye in it, it could leave a stain but if the ketchup does not have red dye in it, it's usually not a problem.
Lipstick
Some lipstick may be in the red dye category which gives it a very slim chance for removal. If the lipstick isn't in the red dye category, then chances are good we'll be able to remove it.
Mustard
Mustard is very difficult to remove.
Paint
If it is a fresh paint spill, the chances are much better. If it is already dried, the chances are much slimmer.
Red Dye
Red dye is almost impossible to remove unless the conditions are exactly right. If the carpet is new, the chances are better.
Rust
Chances for rust removal are excellent.
Soft Drinks
Usually not a problem.
Tea and Coffee
Tannin spots sometimes cause a permanent stain. Many times when coffee or tea is spilled, it is very hot, this can cause the stain to be set into the carpet.
Urine/Vomit
When urine is fresh and has not been cleaned using an alkaline spotter, the chances are good that it can be removed. If the urine has been there for a long time, the chances are slim. Urine will continue to deteriorate the carpet so it is important to remove the urine deposits even if the spot doesn't come out.
Yellowing
Yellowing can be as simple as neutralizing the spot or area by spraying a solution on it, or it can be impossible to remove.

Indentations From Heavy Furniture:

The feet of furniture will create indentations in any carpet. To help reduce marking, where possible, regularly reposition your furniture and other heavy objects. We can not guarantee that we can remove indentations from heavy furniture. Heat, moisture, and hand grooming with our equipment may help, but it will take time to release back to normal, if at all. Severe cases may be permanent.

Carpet Protectant:

Carpet Protectant can help you in two very important ways:

  1. A big carpet cleaning tip is to use a Carpet Protectant. When this protective coating is applied to the carpet fibers, it puts a protective barrier around each fiber. This protective barrier resists moisture. When you do have a spill, it gives you a window of time to get it cleaned up.
  2. The other important way that this product can help you is in the area of wear. Having this protective coating on your carpet helps reduce the wear and abrasion caused by sand in the carpet. This protects the carpet from excessive matting, and in turn will cause your carpet to perform better.
